Apartment Petro Oldtown
First Impressions
Walking up to Apartment Petro Oldtown on Ulica fra Bonina, you immediately get that feeling you’ve stumbled onto something special. This four-star property sits right in the heart of Split‘s historic center, and I mean literally — you’re surrounded by ancient Diocletian’s Palace walls and narrow cobblestone streets that have been here for centuries. The building itself has that perfect blend of old-world Croatian charm with modern touches that actually work together, not like some places where the renovation feels forced.
The Location Magic
Honestly, the location score of 9.5 isn’t just marketing fluff — this spot is genuinely incredible. You’re maybe a two-minute walk from the Peristyle (that’s the main square inside Diocletian’s Palace, where all the action happens), but tucked away enough that you won’t hear every tourist group at dawn. I love how you can slip out for morning coffee at one of the local kafićs before the cruise ship crowds arrive, then duck back to your apartment when things get busy. The fact that couples rate it 8.5 makes total sense — there’s something romantic about wandering these ancient streets together, especially in the evening when the stone glows golden.
The Apartment Experience
What really sets this place apart is how they’ve designed the space to feel like a proper home base, not just a place to crash. The room layout is thoughtful — you’ve got enough space to actually unpack and settle in, which matters when you’re exploring Split for more than a quick overnight. The modern amenities blend seamlessly with the historic setting, and you know what? The air conditioning actually works well, which isn’t always a given in these old buildings. Small details like good lighting and proper storage make a real difference when you’re living out of a suitcase.
Practical Perks
Here’s something that’ll save you both money and headaches — they offer free parking, which is honestly like finding gold in Split’s old town. Anyone who’s tried to navigate a rental car through these medieval streets will appreciate having a guaranteed spot. The staff genuinely knows the area and can point you toward the best local spots, not just the obvious tourist traps. They’ll tell you which bakery has the best burek in the morning or where to find that hidden beach locals actually use.
Why Guests Love It
The 9.0 rating reflects what you experience here — it’s that sweet spot where everything just works without feeling overly polished or sterile. You’re staying in one of Croatia’s most fascinating cities, in a neighborhood where Roman emperors once walked, but with all the comfort and convenience you need for a proper vacation. The combination of being steps from major sights while having your own peaceful retreat creates the perfect Split experience. Plus, when you tell people you stayed inside Diocletian’s Palace, that’s a story worth telling.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Split before autumn harvests fill konobas with truffles and local wines.

Guest Reviews
I would stay here again.
After some struggle to find a parking spot, we were able to leave our car still for the whole time and reach all amenities in the town by foot. Not having to move your car and search for a parking spot is priceless in Split! :) Definitely great value for the money.
The host (Marina) is really nice and helpfull.
