The building sits right on Obala kneza Branimira — honestly, you can’t get much closer to the action in Split without actually sleeping in Diocletian’s Palace. I mean, the location alone would make this place special, but there’s something about the way they’ve restored this historic property that feels both elegant and unpretentious.

You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re literally steps from the palace walls, but you’re not dealing with the narrow, sometimes claustrophobic streets inside the old town. The Riva promenade stretches right outside your door — perfect for those early morning walks before the cruise ship crowds arrive. I’ve stayed in places deeper in the palace where you hear every footstep echoing off ancient stones at 2 AM, but here you get the best of both worlds. The ferry terminal is a quick stroll away, which actually matters if you’re planning day trips to the islands.

The Room Experience

The rooms here strike that perfect balance between modern comfort and respecting the building’s character. My room had these gorgeous high ceilings and original details, but the air conditioning actually worked (trust me, this isn’t always a given in historic Croatian properties). The bathrooms are beautifully updated — marble everywhere, rainfall showers that have proper water pressure. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing; despite being on such a busy street, I slept incredibly well. The views vary depending on which side you’re on, but even the courtyard-facing rooms have charm.

Practical Perks

Here’s something that’ll save you headaches — they have parking on site, which is basically gold in Split’s old town area. I watched other travelers circling the streets for ages looking for a spot while I was already settled with a glass of wine. The staff genuinely knows the city well; they pointed me toward this little konoba tucked away near Marjan Hill that I never would’ve found otherwise. The breakfast spread isn’t huge, but it’s thoughtfully curated with local ingredients — proper Croatian cheese, fresh bread, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine.

Look, Split has plenty of accommodation options, but Casa Costabella gets the fundamentals right in a way that’s surprisingly rare. The location means you can walk to everything that matters — the palace, the market, good restaurants — without needing taxis or buses. But it’s the attention to detail that sets it apart: rooms that actually stay cool in summer, staff who remember your name, and that sense of staying somewhere with real character rather than a generic hotel.   Staff I would rate 12 out of 10.
  Jelena hope I wrote it right was the one we had most contact with. And she was really great. Helpful, friendly and open. But all the other Staff we meet was also helpful and friendly. Location close to most things walking distance to city. Bus to the beach just outside the door or a 20-25 min walk. If you arrive with shuttle bus it willl be a 15 min walk to the hotel. Nice sea view from. the balcony.

  We loved staying at the Casa Costabella. Ivana met us for check-in, she was very complete with her instructions and with questions about the Split city. The room was super clean and spacious. We loved looking out over the harbor in the mornings and evenings. The room was safe and about 8 minute walk from the promenade. There is a grocery store next to the building and a coffee nook just outside the room. I would highly recommend staying at Casa Costabella when visiting Split.
