La Porta Luxury Rooms
First Impressions
Walking up to La Porta Luxury Rooms on Hrvojeva street, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in Split. This four-star boutique property sits right in the historic core — I mean, you’re literally steps from Diocletian’s Palace, which honestly feels surreal when you’re just trying to find your hotel. The entrance has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention, but once you step inside, you realize the owners have put serious thought into every detail.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about the location — you can roll out of bed and be exploring ancient Roman ruins in about two minutes. The palace walls are right there, and you know what? You’ll actually hear the morning bustle of locals heading to the green market at Pazar, not just tourist chatter. Couples seem to get this immediately (they rate the location 9.8, which makes total sense), because there’s something romantic about wandering these narrow stone streets together. The main promenade along the harbor is a quick stroll away, but you’re tucked just far enough back to avoid the cruise ship crowds during the day.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was honestly impressive for Split’s old town, where space usually comes at a premium. These aren’t massive suites, but they’ve maximized every inch thoughtfully — high ceilings help a lot, and the modern amenities blend surprisingly well with the historic building’s character. The beds deserve special mention here because I’m usually pretty picky about mattresses, and I actually slept better than I expected. The air conditioning works properly (crucial for summer visits), and the bathroom feels contemporary without losing the building’s charm.
Daily Rhythms
Mornings here have this nice rhythm — you’ll hear the city waking up gradually rather than all at once. The staff knows the neighborhood well, so they’ll point you toward the better coffee spots that locals actually use, not just the tourist traps around the palace entrance. I found myself coming back to the hotel during the afternoon heat (Split gets seriously warm in summer) because the room stays cool and comfortable. Evenings are perfect for stepping out to explore — the whole historic center becomes this atmospheric maze of restaurants and bars, and you’re positioned perfectly to dive right in.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about La Porta is how it balances authenticity with comfort. You’re staying in a genuinely historic part of the city, but you’re not sacrificing modern conveniences or dealing with outdated facilities. The location score of 9.8 isn’t just marketing fluff — it reflects how rare it is to find quality accommodation this close to Split’s main attractions without feeling like you’re in a tourist bubble. For couples especially, there’s something special about having this historic neighborhood as your temporary home base, where you can explore ancient streets by day and retreat to a comfortable, well-appointed space by night.
Best hotels in Split blend rooftop plunge pools, sea-view balconies, and Dalmatian tasting menus.

The room is small but has enough counter space and space for luggage. Bathroom is quite spacious, great sink and shower. We enjoyed the complimentary tea and coffee.
The host met us at the parking lot and provided us with information about the area, which was helpful. They gave us discounted parking of 15 euro/day, which is very appreciated.
