First Impressions

Walking up to Marmont Heritage Hotel on Zadarska Street, you immediately get that “this is going to be good” feeling. The building itself has this beautiful heritage character that fits perfectly with Split’s old-world charm, but there’s something polished about it that tells you they’ve really thought about the details. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of the city here — and I’m talking proper city center, not some “city center” that’s actually a 20-minute walk from anything interesting.

Location That Actually Matters

Honestly, the location is pretty much perfect, and those 9.8 ratings from couples aren’t just random numbers. You can walk to Diocletian’s Palace in about three minutes, which is incredible when you think about it — you’re staying steps away from a 1,700-year-old Roman palace that’s still alive with cafes, shops, and actual residents. The Riva waterfront is right there too, so morning coffee with a sea view becomes this effortless daily ritual. What I really appreciated was having parking available, because let’s be real, driving in Split’s old town can be a bit of a nightmare otherwise.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d hope for from a well-run four-star property. Everything felt thoughtfully designed rather than just thrown together — you know how some hotels feel like they picked furniture from a catalog? This wasn’t that. The bed was genuinely comfortable (and I’m pretty picky about mattresses), which explains why they get those high ratings for sleep quality. The space felt both historic and modern, if that makes sense — like they respected the building’s character while making sure you had proper air conditioning and a decent shower.

Morning Routine

Breakfast here is buffet-style, and while I usually prefer à la carte, they actually do it well. There’s a good mix of local Croatian specialties alongside the standard international options, so you can try things like fresh Adriatic fish or local cheeses if you’re feeling adventurous. The restaurant area has this lovely morning light, and since you’re so central, you can easily pop out for coffee at one of the nearby cafes if you prefer that authentic Split experience of standing at the bar with the locals.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is how it balances being right in the action without feeling chaotic. You’re close enough to everything that matters — the palace, the waterfront, the best restaurants — but the hotel itself feels like a calm retreat from the summer crowds. The staff genuinely seems to know the city well, so they can point you toward the less obvious spots that make a trip memorable. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing Split properly, not just staying somewhere convenient while you figure out the city on your own.

Best hotels in Split blend rooftop plunge pools, sea-view balconies, and Dalmatian tasting menus.

A very comfortable hotel with easy access to everything. The location was excellent, right in the heart of Split - short walk to all the transport eg ferries, buses, taxis. Plenty of restaurants very close by as well as Diocletian's Palace. Rooms were spacious, beds comfortable and showers excellent. Staff were very helpful and even assisted with our bags on the short walk to the taxi area when we were leaving.

Really enjoyed our stay. The hotel's location more than made up for the (minor) shortfalls. The location could not have been better - right at the heart of old town and only minutes from anywhere you wished to visit. Rooms were fine.

Great staff and great location! Great location … but room 301 with the window open may not work for a quiet nights sleep. There is a nearby balcony with a lot of night time guests and activities.

Would certainly stay there again if we return to Split. Wonderful location within the old town close to Diocletian’s Palace and the waterfront. Easy access to transport and no steps or hills to access the hotel. Staff were extremely helpful, beds were comfortable and there was plenty of room for suitcases. Wifi and air conditioning were excellent. Breakfast was good.
