First Impressions

Walking up to Villa Spaladium on Radunica street, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in Split. This four-star boutique property sits right in the historic heart of the city — I mean, you’re literally steps from Diocletian’s Palace, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to soak up the real atmosphere of this ancient Croatian gem. The villa itself has that perfect balance of old-world charm and modern comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find in Split’s tourist-heavy center.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about staying here — you can roll out of bed and be exploring Roman ruins within minutes, but you’re also tucked away enough on this quieter residential street that you won’t be dealing with cruise ship crowds right outside your window. The location score of 8.8 makes total sense once you experience it yourself. You know what’s really convenient? The main promenade (locals call it Riva) is just a short stroll away, and if you want to catch a ferry to the islands or grab dinner in the old town, everything’s walkable. I actually found myself barely using any transport during my stay.

The Room Experience

My room had this lovely mix of contemporary design with subtle nods to Split’s heritage — think clean lines but with stone accents that remind you where you are. The space felt generous for a historic building, and honestly, the air conditioning was a lifesaver during those warm summer evenings. What struck me most was the attention to detail — quality linens, proper blackout curtains (essential if you’re planning late nights exploring the palace bars), and a bathroom that actually had decent water pressure. Small things, but they matter when you’re unwinding after long days of sightseeing.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast spread here is genuinely impressive — they’ve got Italian options alongside a full English spread, plus solid vegetarian choices that go beyond the usual sad fruit plate. I particularly appreciated that they source local ingredients where possible, so you’re getting a taste of Dalmatian flavors even at the breakfast table. The dining area has this relaxed, unhurried vibe that sets the right tone for exploring Split. Pro tip: try the local pastries — they’re made fresh daily and pair perfectly with strong Croatian coffee.

Why Couples Love It

I can see why couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways. There’s something about the intimate scale of Villa Spaladium that feels more personal than the larger hotels scattered around Split. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience — they’ll point you toward the best sunset spots (head to Marjan Hill around 7 PM) or recommend that perfect little konoba for dinner that tourists usually miss. The whole property has this sophisticated yet relaxed energy that works whether you’re celebrating an anniversary or just stealing away for a long weekend. Plus, being able to wander through 1,700-year-old Roman streets hand-in-hand, then retreat to your comfortable base, creates exactly the kind of memorable experience that makes Split such a special destination.

Hotels in Split line Roman alleyways, seaside promenades, and marina districts buzzing with konobas.

Perfect location in the Palace with an amazing terrace We loved our two nights at Villa Spaladium. The location in the heart of Diocletian's Palace is unbeatable and the terrace overlooking the main square is spectacular. Having coffee in the morning and wine in the evening under a 900-year-old clock tower was great. Everyone below was taking pictures of the clock that we could almost reach out and touch. Without a doubt we would recommend this apartment and stay here again.

Wonderful The apartment was just as it was described. Great location, and the terrace overlooking the square was a treat. Really good size bedrooms and beds. The kitchenette has everything you need but is small. It leads out onto the big balcony. The tv is in the main bedroom. While there is no reception the online reception is 10 out of 10. They were brilliant. I used WhatsApp and response was instant, a big thankyou to you.
