I mean, you can’t get more central than this without actually sleeping in Diocletian’s Palace itself. The building has this wonderful old-world charm that somehow doesn’t feel stuffy or overdone.

Location & Getting Around

You know what’s brilliant about this spot? Everything you want to see is within a five-minute walk. The palace walls, the waterfront promenade, those little side streets packed with cafes — it’s all right there. Couples absolutely love it here (they rate the location 9.9, which is pretty much unheard of), and I can see why. There’s something romantic about wandering back to your hotel through those ancient stone streets after dinner. Plus, they’ve got private parking available, which is actually a big deal in Split’s old town where most places leave you scrambling for a spot.

The Room Experience

The room here are where the “heritage” part really shines through. Each room feels different — some have exposed stone walls, others feature antique furnishings that look like they belong in a museum but are actually comfortable to use. What really impressed me though were the beds. I’m usually pretty picky about mattresses, but these were genuinely some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in Croatia. The attention to detail is everywhere, from the quality linens to the way they’ve managed to blend modern amenities with historical character.

Food & Dining

The restaurant here is honestly one of those pleasant surprises you don’t expect from a hotel this size. The breakfast spread covers all the bases — continental classics, Italian options, plus they actually do proper vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices that don’t feel like afterthoughts. But it’s the dinner service that really stands out. The kitchen focuses on local ingredients, and you can taste the difference. I had some of the best black risotto of my trip here, which is saying something considering how many places in Split serve it.

  The staff was above and beyond!!! They took such good care of us from the time we walked in. Jan upgraded our room for one night since it was available. Every morning breakfast was amazing. They gave us a list of places to see and we just ran down the list. This is where we will stay if we ever come back. We loved the location and the proximity to the nightly music in the Palace and all the adorable pubs and restaurants. It was definitely worth the money.

  The location couldn’t have been more central and was a few minutes walk from all of the attractions and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and nothing was a problem. When we were leaving to catch an Uber to the airport, we were escorted out of the old town to the pick up location.
