La Porta Luxury Rooms Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to La Porta Luxury Rooms on Hrvojeva street, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in Split. This four-star boutique property sits right in the historic core — I mean, you’re literally steps from Diocletian’s Palace, which honestly feels surreal when you’re just trying to find your hotel. The entrance has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention, but once you step inside, you realize the owners have put serious thought into every detail.

Location That Actually Matters

Here’s what I love about the location — you can roll out of bed and be exploring ancient Roman ruins in about two minutes. The palace walls are right there, and you know what? You’ll actually hear the morning bustle of locals heading to the green market at Pazar, not just tourist chatter. Couples seem to get this immediately (they rate the location 9.8, which makes total sense), because there’s something romantic about wandering these narrow stone streets together. The main promenade along the harbor is a quick stroll away, but you’re tucked just far enough back to avoid the cruise ship crowds during the day.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was honestly impressive for Split’s old town, where space usually comes at a premium. These aren’t massive suites, but they’ve maximized every inch thoughtfully — high ceilings help a lot, and the modern amenities blend surprisingly well with the historic building’s character. The beds deserve special mention here because I’m usually pretty picky about mattresses, and I actually slept better than I expected. The air conditioning works properly (crucial for summer visits), and the bathroom feels contemporary without losing the building’s charm.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have this nice rhythm — you’ll hear the city waking up gradually rather than all at once. The staff knows the neighborhood well, so they’ll point you toward the better coffee spots that locals actually use, not just the tourist traps around the palace entrance. I found myself coming back to the hotel during the afternoon heat (Split gets seriously warm in summer) because the room stays cool and comfortable. Evenings are perfect for stepping out to explore — the whole historic center becomes this atmospheric maze of restaurants and bars, and you’re positioned perfectly to dive right in.

Why Guests Love It

What really works about La Porta is how it balances authenticity with comfort. You’re staying in a genuinely historic part of the city, but you’re not sacrificing modern conveniences or dealing with outdated facilities. The location score of 9.8 isn’t just marketing fluff — it reflects how rare it is to find quality accommodation this close to Split’s main attractions without feeling like you’re in a tourist bubble. For couples especially, there’s something special about having this historic neighborhood as your temporary home base, where you can explore ancient streets by day and retreat to a comfortable, well-appointed space by night.

Best hotels in Split blend rooftop plunge pools, sea-view balconies, and Dalmatian tasting menus.

Reviews of La Porta Luxury Rooms

  • Exceptional – Joona from Finland (9/10)

The location is excellent, right next to Diocletians palace, Riva etc.. Also very close to ferry port and airport shuttle bus stop. Host Tony was friendly and greeted us in the front of the building. It's on top floor so no noise from upstairs, which is a plus. Outdoor market and lots of vendors just outside, also two minimarts to get some supplies right around the corner. Nothing to complain.

  • Wonderful – Maria from Australia (9/10)

Location was perfect and Tony went above and beyond to make our stay super comfortable! Thanks Tony we’ll be back! 😊

  • The accommodation provided a perfect position to experience the wonders of Split. – John from Australia (9/10)

Toni could not have been more helpful and friendly in assisting us with luggage and making the most of our stay.

  • Modern room in the heart of Split old town – Van from United States of America (9/10)

This room is right outside Diocletian's palace. The street is less busy but everything is so accessible. It's close to a bakery, two small grocery stores and a daily green market.

The room is small but has enough counter space and space for luggage. Bathroom is quite spacious, great sink and shower. We enjoyed the complimentary tea and coffee.

The host met us at the parking lot and provided us with information about the area, which was helpful. They gave us discounted parking of 15 euro/day, which is very appreciated.

  • If you’re looking for a room with a view near the ferry Port and the Old town – look no further – Elizabeth from United Kingdom (9/10)

This apartment is perfectly located next to the Old Town and ferry port. Toni is an excellent host who goes out of his way to help all his guests.

  • Very Good – Mark from Australia (8/10)

Lovely spot, just be aware that it is at the very top of a building, so you have to be able to climb a fair amount of stairs

  • Exceptional – Itzi from United States of America (9/10)

The location was amazing, really easy access and great communication with the host.
The staff is very kind, rooms are clean and made our stay a great experience. Definitely recommend.

  • Great location near marina and old city. Very well equipped. Lovely host. – Karen from Australia (9/10)

Very clean, great beds and shower, great location. We caught the bus from Zagreb and it was a short walk to the apartment. We are going on a cruise tomorrow with an equally short walk to the marina. Close to restaurants and night
I’ve. Wish we could have stayed longer. Excellent amenities.

It’s location right next to the central Palace area, perfect! Our room had a balcony overlooking the port area and was lovely and clean and so well maintained by the host Toni and his wife so our thanks really go to them for making our stay so wonderful, nothing was too much trouble
