The Riva waterfront promenade is right there when you want the buzz of cafes and people-watching, but you can actually sleep at night without street noise. I’ve stayed in places right on the main drag before, and trust me, this is better. You know what’s really convenient? There’s a small local market just around the corner where you can grab Croatian wine and snacks without dealing with tourist prices.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of modern comfort and Croatian character — think clean lines with local stone accents and really good air conditioning (essential in Split summers). The bathroom was surprisingly spacious for a European hotel, and the shower pressure was actually decent. What caught my attention was the attention to detail — quality linens, a small balcony that caught morning light, and blackout curtains that work. It’s not flashy, but everything just… works well.

Getting Around and Practical Stuff

One thing that surprised me was how walkable everything becomes from this spot. The ferry terminal for island day trips is maybe ten minutes on foot, and you can reach the main bus station easily if you’re planning excursions to Plitvice or other Croatian highlights. Parking in Split can be a nightmare, but the hotel staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you real advice about where to leave your car if you’re driving. The front desk team speaks excellent English and seems genuinely interested in helping rather than just going through motions.

I think what makes New Lux Villa Merissima work so well is that it feels like staying in Split rather than just visiting it. You’re in a real neighborhood where locals actually live, but you haven’t sacrificed access to the historic center or waterfront. Couples especially seem to appreciate the romantic setting and easy access to Split’s best dinner spots and evening walks along the harbor.

  The old house is in an excellent location just a few steps from the centre of the old town and has been beautifully and sympathetically renovated. The continental breakfast buffet contained all the usual elements including a kettle and toaster. The lady present at breakfast was very helpful with advice on public transport, etc.
